Happy Halloween Baskets

Halloween is just around the corner and what could be better than to create some fun and exciting crafts.  I just love Halloween, and it always makes me feel like a kid again. The little one is so excited about all the decorations, and all the candies she will be receiving. Before I continue, this project was selected by my dear Husband, who I give all the credit too. He sure put all his time and effort in making this an incredible crafty project for everyone to enjoy. Now, enough about all that, let's just start on our Halloween Project. Don't you love when the entire family can participate in crafty projects?

We will be making paper mache Happy Halloween Baskets. What you will need is:

Newspaper or telephone book pages

Flour

Water

Balloons

Paint

Scissors

Big Bowl

First, get all you supplies together. Blow up some balloons as these will be used as a base for our paper mache. Next, cut or tear strips of the newspaper. Then, in a big bowl add 1 cup of flour to 1 cup of water. Mix together until you get a nice smooth, glue like texture, adding more flour or water as you need. The little one will love mixing this together. Sophia had so much fun with the mixture, she thought she was making a cake. LOL.

Now, the fun, messy part begins. Dip your strips into your glue and begin to layer your balloon. Keep adding layers of strips and flattening your strips around the balloon until you almost completely cover the balloon.

Then, let the balloons dry. This may take up to 24 hours or your could get a fan or hair dryer to speed up the process. Well, of course the little one couldn't wait to see the results, so she woke up real early asking me were the Halloween Baskets ready to be painted. I was happy when they were finally dry, otherwise I would have have heard this sentence "Are they dry yet Mama?" And, if you have kids, you know what I am talking about. LOL

When the balloons are completely dry, pop the balloons and peel them off. Next take your scissors and cut and nice round top, or you can cut zig-zags, squares and anything else you can think of. If you had a knife or exacto-blade you could even cut out eyes and a mouth. It is all up to your own creativity.

Now you are ready to paint your Happy Halloween Basket. Grab your paints and brushes and go to town! Sophia loved painting her Halloween Baskets and wanted to add a little sparkle to her baskets by adding some glitter. It sure looked exceptional and most of all, it made her happy.

Crafty 4th of July Firecracker Pom Pom Wreath!

Since, we are celebrating our Independence Day on the 4th of July, why not make this day even more special by making another crafty project. I am in the mood to decorate the door and give it a little firecracker look, what do you think?  So, lets get started on our fun, exciting 4th of July crafty tutorial.

Supplies:

Aleene's Tacky Glue (You can use Hot glue, but if working with kids, use Aleene's glue)

Felt 

Pompoms (Red, White and Blue)

Scissors

Foam wreath

Ribbon

Reach for your felt and cut them in several square pieces or you can wrap the felt around the entire foam wreath.  Sophia of course wanted the square pieces, so that is what we ended up doing.  

Now, go ahead and reach for your square pieces of felt and gather your pompoms together. We will start with the white square felt pieces. Take the red pompoms and damp it in some glue and place it on the white square piece of felt.  Continue this process until you have enough to complete the inside of the wreath circle.

Next, you rub some glue onto the foam wreath and start placing all the pompom pieces on to the foam wreath.

Take the white pompoms and damp each of them in some glue and place them behind the red pompoms.  Continue this process until the circle is complete. Keep a little section open on top to wrap your ribbon.

Then you will glue the blue pompoms behind the white pompoms, complete the circle as well and fill all the blue pompoms close together, so it looks really fluffy and full.

Once, the wreath is full of red, white and blue pompoms, get your lovely decorative 4th of July ribbon and tie it around the wreath. Voila,  you have created your own Crafty Firecracker Pompom Wreath.  What a fantastic way to decorate your front door or any room with this lovely handmade project. Here is my little silly Sophia having fun with her new 4th of July wreath!

Tissue Paper Butterfly

Today, was a perfect day to work on a wonderful craft idea. Sophia was excited to make some crafts, so I decided why not. Now, I have to put my thinking hat on. We are going to make a Tissue Paper Butterfly. This is a fun project where your little ones can use their fingers and create many beautiful projects. Now, let us start on our fun Tissue Paper Butterfly.

Supplies:

Tissue Paper (Any colors you want)

Construction Paper

Scissors

Pencil

Glue

Newspaper/or cloth

Get your construction paper and ask your little one what they want you to draw for them. If they want to draw something on their own, that will be great too. You can also use printables if you want, which might be easier on you, but Sophia wanted me to draw a butterfly, so I did.

Reach for the tissue paper and start cutting them into strips, then you cut them approximately into 2-inch squares.

Next, crumple the colorful tissue papers into balls. Sophia had a great time crumpling the tissue papers and wanted to keep doing that over and over again.

Then, get your butterfly drawing and apply some glue on top of it.

Grab your crumpled up tissue and glue them on the butterfly drawing. Repeat the process until the butterfly or drawing is fully covered.

Voila! Now, you have created beautiful project where your little once will love. Enjoy and I would love to read your wonderful comments!

Festive Mini Felt Purses!

This past weekend, I was busy trying to organize some of my craft supplies and to my surprise, I came across a bag full of felt. So I decided to do another craft idea with the little one. This time around, we will be making "Festive Mini Felt Purses". Yep, since she loves to carry my purse everywhere, why not let her make/design her own fashionable felt purse. Now, let's begin our tutorial.

Supplies you will need:

Felt pieces (a variety of colors)
Felt glue (no sew or regular white glue)
Scissor (Hole punch)
Ribbon

Pom Pom (variety of colors)
Glitter (any color you desire)

Let them pick out their favorite felt color. Sophia decided to go with blue, since it is her favorite color. Place the felt sheet flat down on the table. They will glue both sides of the felt sheet and fold in half length-wise.

Start cutting out various shapes (hearts, diamonds, squares, rectangles, circles and more) from the other felt sheets. Sophia wanted heart shapes, so I started to cut out some heart shapes and other shapes as well. Pour glue on the front of the purse and place the shapes on top and press down and let go. Sophia placed a lot of heart shapes on her purse and decorated it with pom pom. To add a little sparkle to the purse, daddy wrote down her name with glue and let her sprinkle blue glitter on top. Be sure to put a piece of paper underneath to clean up the glitter.

Shake off the remainder of the glitter and set aside to dry off. Cut out two holes on each side of of the purse. Feed the ribbon through the hole and tie a knot. Doesn't that look too cute and glittery!

Of course Sophia wanted to make more felt purses, so we decided to add more to the collection. She wanted to make a pink heart shape purse. Cut out a heart shape out of the felt sheet. Glue both sides and place them on top of each other and press down. Be sure to only glue the sides. Decorate your felt purse with everything you have at hand (pom pom, cut out shapes, glitter, ribbon and more)

Take a peek at a few more of Sophia's felt purse collection!

Make as many felt purses as you want and continue the process. Be creative and make it your own. Let your little ones have fun with this activity and let them decorate their purses as much as they can. Because in the end they will be the one carrying the purse!
