The Little King and His Marshmallow Kingdom Review and Giveaway-CLOSED!

As a parent it is very important to teach your little one to respect each other and treat everyone like you would like to be treated, even if they are different. I had the opportunity to review this amazing book called "The Little King and His 
Marshmallow Kingdom" by Louis Rotella III.  This book is about a wonderful, smart and funny little eight year old boy called Louie. He was born with Down Syndrome, but that does not stop him from playing and enjoying life with the love and support of his parents and family. 

The minute I received the book, Sophia and I were having a tea-party. So we decided to read it right then. I opened the book and she was immediately fascinated with the The Little King's crown. She told me to stop reading, so she could wear her princess crown as well. Once she had it on, I continued with the story. It is wonderfully, well-written with large colorful images for any child to adore. Sophia loves the part where the The Little King was blowing bubbles and swinging on the tire swing. She even said, "I did that at the park too." 

“No kid is exactly alike. But we’re all kids. Right?”

Just like the words, not everyone is the same. We play and have fun just like everyone, but in our own special way.    

"The Little King and His Marshmallow Kingdom" was written to give parents, their children and instructors the ability to access some of the lessons and joy Louie brings into  every person he meets. This is an incredible book for everyone to read. It brought back a lot of my childhood memories of my friend Ellen, who also had Down Syndrome. Yet, she was the sweetest, lovable little girl who behaved and enjoyed life like everyone else.  The book is available at amazon.com

Festive Mini Felt Purses!

This past weekend, I was busy trying to organize some of my craft supplies and to my surprise, I came across a bag full of felt. So I decided to do another craft idea with the little one. This time around, we will be making "Festive Mini Felt Purses". Yep, since she loves to carry my purse everywhere, why not let her make/design her own fashionable felt purse. Now, let's begin our tutorial.

Supplies you will need:

Felt pieces (a variety of colors)
Felt glue (no sew or regular white glue)
Scissor (Hole punch)
Ribbon

Pom Pom (variety of colors)
Glitter (any color you desire)

Let them pick out their favorite felt color. Sophia decided to go with blue, since it is her favorite color. Place the felt sheet flat down on the table. They will glue both sides of the felt sheet and fold in half length-wise.

Start cutting out various shapes (hearts, diamonds, squares, rectangles, circles and more) from the other felt sheets. Sophia wanted heart shapes, so I started to cut out some heart shapes and other shapes as well. Pour glue on the front of the purse and place the shapes on top and press down and let go. Sophia placed a lot of heart shapes on her purse and decorated it with pom pom. To add a little sparkle to the purse, daddy wrote down her name with glue and let her sprinkle blue glitter on top. Be sure to put a piece of paper underneath to clean up the glitter.

Shake off the remainder of the glitter and set aside to dry off. Cut out two holes on each side of of the purse. Feed the ribbon through the hole and tie a knot. Doesn't that look too cute and glittery!

Of course Sophia wanted to make more felt purses, so we decided to add more to the collection. She wanted to make a pink heart shape purse. Cut out a heart shape out of the felt sheet. Glue both sides and place them on top of each other and press down. Be sure to only glue the sides. Decorate your felt purse with everything you have at hand (pom pom, cut out shapes, glitter, ribbon and more)

Take a peek at a few more of Sophia's felt purse collection!

Make as many felt purses as you want and continue the process. Be creative and make it your own. Let your little ones have fun with this activity and let them decorate their purses as much as they can. Because in the end they will be the one carrying the purse!

Good Times Golfing!

Since, we were having such beautiful weather lately, we decided to take this opportunity to spend some time outdoors. We headed off to see the Grandparents, and what can be better than to enjoy a nice day playing Golf. It was Sophia's first time playing Golf and she was very excited to play. She did not just have any white ball Grandpa gave her a special pink ball to play with.

Now, we take a few minutes to practice our swing, angles and so on. Sophia is trying her best to practice hitting her ball into the field. After everyone practiced hitting the balls, we set off to play some Golf.

Every stop we made, Sophia was so quick to get out off the golf cart and start hitting her ball. She was so fascinated by it that she could not stop. She swung and swung all excited to hit the ball in the hole. With the help of Grandpa, Daddy and Gigi, she was determined to play some more golf. We headed home and Sophia was so tired that she ended up falling a sleep in the car. She had quite a fun and productive day.

Since, she had so much fun playing with Grandpa and Gigi, she wanted to continue playing golf. So, I decided to come up with a fun homemade indoor golf course and golf club.

Supplies we need to build our golf club and course:

Sponge

Swiffer Dusters Extender

Cookie Container

Oatmeal box

Shoe box

Any Box size you want

In order to make the golf club make two holes at the end of the sponge and slide the Swiffer Duster Extender through the two holes (just like you would, when you slide the dusters) simple as that. Get your shoe box and cut the ends open, to make the ball roll from one end to the other. Cut out the bottom of the Oatmeal box. Now put all those materials in a row and line them up, so the ball can roll from the beginning to the end.

Not only have you created your handmade golf club, but you have also created a golf course as well with everything you have found around the house. Be creative and come up with your own course, use blocks, toys or anything you can imagine that would make a fun putt putt course. Now, let's play some "Indoor Golf" and let me know how it went.
